How about spending some time in the park this weekend? Piedmont Park is hosting the annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival Friday through Sunday and visitors will enjoy a fun-filled weekend that will include art exhibits, entertainment, food and more.

The artist market will house over 240 artists from around the country all weekend long. They will display work in a variety of mediums and some artisans will have demonstration stations showcasing their techniques. High school artists will also have some of their work on display, as will the winner of the annual poster contest. The Community Corner will also be open all weekend long with local non-profit organizations giving visitors information. Some of the organizations that will be on hand will be Angel Flight of Georgia, Hands On Atlanta and Trees Atlanta among many others.

The Dogwood festival will also go to the dogs over the weekend with the US Disc Dog Southern Nationals taking place on Saturday and Sunday. The Freestyle teams competition will take place on Saturday and the Toss and Fetch in Junior, Novice and Pro will take place on Sunday. Action will last from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. each day and registration starts at 10 a.m. phone 770-386-6184 or e-mail melissa@woofsports.com for more information.

There will be lots of activities for the kids as well. Not only will there be a rock climbing wall and a kids village that will include crafts, toys, face painting and inflatable areas but there will also be the Best Buy Fun Zone, which will feature a number of video games and electronic gadgets as well as the Animal Planet Expo.

One of the biggest attractions to the Atlanta Dogwood Festival is the music. There will be three stages filled with musical acts on Saturday and Sunday, including The Derek Trucks Band, Cindy Wilson of the B-52's, Mother's Finest and Sugarland among a number of other acts of varying genres. There will also be street performers, puppeteers and spoken word artists performing throughout the weekend.
