Groundbreaking for new museum at Little White House

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources will break ground on the new Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Museum Saturday, Apr. 12 at 2 p.m. The groundbreaking, which will coincide with the Little White house's annual Commemorative Ceremony on the 58th anniversary of Roosevelt's death, will feature remarks from Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, Roosevelt's grandaughter, as well as music from the Ft. benning Unfantry Center Band and color guard presented by the United States Marine Corps Logistic Base of Albany.

The DNR will build a new, 18,000-square-foot museum with updated exhibits and constructed on one level to be accessible to all visitors. In addition, the Little Whie House plans to upgrade its facilities for researchers and archivists, fulfilling Roosevelt's dream of making the records of the past available "for the use of men and women in the future."

The Little White House draws more than 110,000 visitors annually, more than any other Georgia state historic site. The annual Commemorative Ceremony is held at 2 p.m. each year on the front lawn and admission to the ceremony is free after noon.
