Taste of Georgia at Peeples Elem.
The smells of Georgia's three "P's" peanuts, pecans, and peaches wafted through the halls of Peeples Elementary as students in the third grade at Peeples Elementary in Fayetteville recently enjoyed "A Taste of Georgia." The event, designed by third-grade teachers and executed by parent volunteers, was held in the school's commons area and was the culminating activity to studies on the state of Georgia. Each third-grade student and his or her family were asked to provide a food made with products from Georgia. The final spread consisted of a variety of treats including pecan pie, peanut butter cookies, corn bread, peach cobbler, sweet potato casserole, watermelon, beef meatballs, chicken nuggets, and much more. The students loaded their plate and then returned to their classroom to enjoy the feast. While studying the state of Georgia, the third graders also worked on many projects. They created salt dough maps of the state labeling the regions, rivers, and major cities. In addition, each student made an ABC book with an important fact about Georgia for each letter of the alphabet. The projects were designed as "hands-on" activities to reinforce Georgia state studies.
