An open letter to the cool people in Fayette By MICHAEL
BOYLAN I am searching for cool people and good stories. As many of you may have realized, I am no longer the sports editor. My duties now include writing stories for the weekend section, covering Tyrone Town Council and several Peachtree City meetings, and writing features, which I love doing. Feature stories let me go out into the community and meet people from all walks of life. Afterwards, I write a story and introduce them to you. This has been terrific. Over the years I have had the opportunity to do some interesting features. You may remember stories on a former baseball player with the Washington Senators, an old rodeo clown, the young man who biked from Washington state to Washington D.C., local authors, a street luger, a champion handcyclist, the man behind Silver Hair Ministries, and many, many more. I also have some features coming soon, including one on Ralph Woolfolk, a young man at Our Lady of Mercy who was on a Nickelodeon sitcom, and Speech, one of the founding members of the hip-hop group Arrested Development. I sought out the Speech interview myself because I am a fan, but people had to lead me to the other subjects. That is where you come in. I need you to lead me to feature stories. Tell me about the cool and interesting people you know and we might be able to do a story on them in an upcoming issue. I want to meet people who have done amazing things or attempted to do amazing things. I want to meet people that are positive influences in the community and try to make this world a better place. I want to find out about things that you are interested in and get you interested in things you don't know much about. So, you tell me. Do you want to know the whereabouts and what's going on with people that used to live in the community? Want to know what a normal day is like for some of the more unusual establishments or businesses in the county? Do you know someone who has done something that thousands of people only dream about? What about someone who does something that few people know about? I want to see my e-mail inbox flooded with ideas of people and places to check out. The only criteria is that they deal with local people or places and that some other publication didn't recently do a story on said person. I can't promise that I'll get to all of them, but I can promise that I will do my best. So, give me a call or e-mail and let me know who the cool people are. |
