F'ville First UMC plans day of service to the community

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will celebrate its second annual "Great Day of Service," Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this day of community work, church officials expect over 400 participants to complete 22 projects in Fayetteville and the surrounding areas.

Last year, the church sponsored its first event of this type and completed 14 community projects with 250 participants.

This year's projects include the Joseph Sams School, Southwest Christian Hospice and Hope House, and the Fayette Samaritans Building Blitz, as well as return visits to many of last year's locations. Participants will again paint, landscape, construct sheds and buildings, clean gutters, and lay flooring. No skills are required except willing hands and hearts.

The program will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast in the church gymnasium, followed by a Communion Service at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will begin their projects between 9-9:30 a.m.

T-shirts for the event may be purchased for $10 at the church. Childcare will be available for those 7 and under. Older children will participate with parents or a specially designed children's project. Registration deadline is April 20.

For further information, call the Rev. Maria Wells or Mrs. Julie Harp, 770-461-4313.
