Children's Choir to perform at F'ville's Outreach International Center April 19 The exotic rhythms of Africa blended with the harmony of children's voices will echo in Fayetteville Saturday, April 19, when the Watoto Children's Choir, "Concert of Hope," performs at the Outreach International Center on Jeff Davis Drive. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Participants in the choir live in Watoto (African for children) children's villages near Kampala, Uganda. The villages were created to take care of thousands of Ugandan children left orphaned by the AIDS epidemic and the civil war in that area. Currently, about 1,500 children are cared for in the villages and the goal is to build homes and schools to care for 30,000 orphans. "The goal of Watoto Child care, born out of the Kampala Pentecostal Church, is to equip the children with essential moral and life skills that will enable them to make a significant and lasting impact on the future of their country," said Dr. John Hatcher, pastor of Outreach International. "We hosted Watoto two years ago and found their concerts to be breathtaking. The African drums resound and, one by one, the children come dancing down the aisles in their brilliant Ugandan costumes." Outreach International is at 1091 Jeff Davis Dr., south, near the Clayton-Fayette county line. For more information, call the church office, 770-719-0303. |
