Nativity Episcopal announces Easter services, activities Holy Week begins at the Episcopal Church of Nativity with two services on Palm Sunday, April 13. All outdoor services will be held indoors in case of rain. The Children and Family Service at 8:45 a.m. will begin in the Memorial Garden with the Liturgy of the Palms, followed by a procession into the sanctuary. The Liturgy of the Palms for the traditional service at 10:30 a.m. will be celebrated jointly with Nativity's next-door neighbors, St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, in front of the cross on St. Gabriel's lawn. Wednesday evening of Holy Week, April 16, begins with a simple meal at 6 p.m., followed by The Way of the Cross and a Healing Service. The Way of the Cross will be held in the Garden of Resurrection. This devotion involves praying before a series of representations of events on Christ's journey to the Cross. On Maundy Thursday, April 17, there will be an Agape Meal at 5:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 7 p.m. that will include the washing of feet. Good Friday observances begin on April 18 at noon at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, next door to Nativity. Various local clergy, including Nativity's rector, the Rev. Robert Hudak, will offer reflections on "The Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross" until 3 p.m. At approximately 3:15 p.m., The Way of the Cross will begin in the Garden of Resurrection. The Passion of St. John, Solemn Prayers, and The Veneration of the Cross will begin at 7 p.m. on Good Friday. Easter, April 20, is the greatest and oldest feast of the Christian Church. It begins at Nativity at 6 a.m. with The Great Vigil of Easter, the culmination of the sacred celebration of Holy Week and the beginning of the celebration of Christ's Resurrection. An Easter Breakfast will follow at 8 a.m. Easter Sunday will continue with a Festal Service of Holy Eucharist 10:30 a.m. Children are encouraged to bring cut flowers and join the entrance procession, participating in the tradition of the "flowering of the cross."
