High school baseball season underway By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The high school baseball season is still young. In fact, several teams have had rain either cut short or postpone a game altogether. Each local team has seen some encouraging things though, promising an entertaining season. McIntosh improved to 3-0 with a 2-0 win over Landmark last Wednesday and an 8-2 win over Sandy Creek. Tim Battle launched a solo homerun and J.T. Thompson hit an RBI double in their game against Landmark, while Drew Grant got the win and Ryan Schwartz got the save. In their game against Sandy Creek, the Chiefs gave up a run in the first and third inning. John King came in to relieve Battle and pitched three solid innings of scoreless ball. McIntosh's bats came alive in the sixth, scoring six runs in the inning and following it up with two more in the seventh. Trevor Pippin drove in three RBIs and Grant drove in two RBIs in the win. McIntosh will face Spalding County at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon and will play at Northgate on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Starr's Mill faced Spalding last Wednesday and lost 5-4 in a rain shortened game that lasted five and a half innings. The Panthers ran in to trouble early, walking several batters and giving up hits that allowed Spalding to score. Chuck Lukanen came in in relief for starting pitcher Blake Nation and did a terrifc job, according to coach Brent Moseley. The team started hitting the ball well but came up short as the game was called early. Kyle McCreary went two for four from the plate, while Casey Bond and Chad Lindsey went two for three. Starr's Mill will play at Sandy Creek at 5:30 p.m. today and host Griffin on Friday at 7 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy also had a game called short. The Bobcats faced Mt. Paran last week and tied 4-4. Their game was called short due to darkness. They were scheduled to face Temple last Friday and were rained out. The Bobcats were scheduled to take on Temple yesterday at 5 p.m. Fayette County's Tigers had a three day road trip shortened to two games on Saturday. The Tigers defeated Glynn Academy 6-3 in the first game. Lee Hyde got the win and Justin White recorded the save. Offensively, Joseph Edens hit a solo homerun and David Owens went two for four with a double. In the second game, the Tigers lost to Brunswick 5-4. Edens pitched the first four innings and was relieved by Jeff Crisp who pitched two innings and picked up the loss as the Tigers gave up three runs in the sixth. Hyde went for four for four at the plate. The Tigers will host Northgate at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon and will take on Banneker at home on Friday at 5 p.m.
