Fayette County names new football coach By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
In January of 1979, Thomas Webb taught health and physical education at Fayette County High School. In the fall, he was teaching the same subjects at Fayette County Junior High School and had his first football coaching job. He will return to the sidelines for Fayette County High School this fall as the Tigers new head football coach. Webb, a Fayetteville resident, has coached football for Jonesboro High School for the past two years and served as the athletic director for both Jonesboro and Riverdale High School, where he was head football coach from 1999-2000. In addition to coaching football, Webb has also coached baseball, boys and girls basketball, soccer and tennis at various times over the span of his career. But he has found the most success with football taking Jonesboro to the state playoffs this past season and taking Riverdale to the state playoffs in 1996, 1997 and 1998, where they reached the state semifinals in the Georgia Dome. Webb has also found success as an athletic director. For the 1997, 1998 season he was named as Athletic Director of the Year for Region 4-AAA as well as the state. He was also Athletic Director of the Year for Region 4-AAAA in 1999-2000 and Region 2-AAAAA 2002-2003. Fayette County High School is looking to bounce back from a 2-8 season and spring practices for all local football teams will start soon.
