Tuesday night's basketball action saw several local teams get key region wins, while others lost in tough contests.

McIntosh's boys and girls hosted Newnan and both the Chiefs and Lady Chiefs lost. The Lady Chiefs found themselves tied with Newnan after the first quarter and had a brief lead in the second quarter before Newnan scored 13 straight points and had a 10 point lead. In the second half the two teams combined to score 69 points, including a nine-point flurry by McIntosh's Christa Mann. In the end, the Lady Chiefs couldn't catch up with Newnan and lost 59-48. Lindsay Murphy finished with 14 points for McIntosh.

In the boys game, the Chiefs got big games from Brett Boron and Adam McWilliams, who both scored 15 points a piece, but had trouble slowing down a large Newnan team. The Chiefs lost 58-45. McIntosh will travel to Fayetteville to take on Fayette County tonight.

Fayette County's boys and girls split with East Coweta on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers lost to the Lady Indians 48-47. Ashley Godfrey scored 20 points for East Coweta while Alexis Malone added 11 points and 18 rebounds. Megan Nichols scored 15 points for Fayette County. The Fayette County boys won 69-61 as Dexter manley scored 19 points for the Tigers and Matt Heckman added 18 points. East Coweta will play at Lovejoy while Fayette County hosts McIntosh tonight.

Starr's Mill's boys and girls had no problems with Mundy's Mill Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers won 56-36 and had control of the game from the outset. Ashley Marine scored 14 points while Ann Houghtaling added nine points and Erica Harris added eight points. The boys jumped out to a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter but failed to score in the fourth quarter in their 43-26 win. Caleb Graham scored 13 points and Andy Drum added 11 points for Starr's Mill. Starr's Mill will host Carver of Columbus tonight.

The Sandy Creek boys ended a three game losing streak with a 67-51 win over North Clayton. Charles Belton scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Sandy Creek, while Kevin Lott added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Sandy Creek's leading scorer Kevin Craig was out due to illness.

"I told the team before the gamne that this is what next year's team will look like," said Coach Maurice Triche, who was pleased with how everyone on the team stepped up to end the losing streak. "We've been in every game this year and we're still shooting to make the state playoffs."

The Lady Patriots were not as fortunate, losing for the second time in three games. North Clayton's girls defeated Sandy Creek 51-37, despite 13 points from Mary Fields. Sandy Creek will host Woodward Academy tonight and will play at Alexander tomorrow.

Tonight's games will start with girls game at 7 p.m. and will be directly followed by the boys games. Saturday's games start at 6 p.m.
