Lacrosse event in PTC this weekend The Peachtree City Lacrosse Association will hold the first Box Lacrosse Jamboree tomorrow from 12-5 p.m. at the Kedron Multi-Purpose Rink on Kedron Drive North in Peachtree City. The event will feature several games between youth U14, U12, and high school teams from Tucker and Peachtree City, and two adult teams from Alpharetta will hold an exhibition game between the youth and high school games. In honor of the event, Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown has proclaimed Jan. 25 as "Box Lacrosse Day" in Peachtree City, saying, "I think this is a wonderful opportunity to introduce this new sport and host visitors to our city. As a lacrosse player, this is one of my all-time favorite sports, and I'm pleased to se it gaining in popularity in Peachtree City." The public is welcome to attend the event, which is free of charge, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Brown continued, "I encourage everyone to come watch one of the fastest-moving sporting events in Peachtree City." The field game of Lacrosse, which resembles a cross between hockey and basketball, is the oldest North American sport and is recognized as the fastest sport on two feet. Once an Olympic sport, Lacrosse is played internationally with teams from Europe and Asia competing against North American teams. Box Lacrosse started in the 1930's and is played in a hockey arena with 5 players and a goalie. The Peachtree City Lacrosse Association introduced 87 new players to Indoor or Box Lacrosse, joining the 1,400 boys and girls already playing Lacrosse in the Atlanta Metro area.
