McIntosh swim teams get big wins

McIntosh High School's swim team hosted a double dual meet against Sandy Creek and Lovejoy last week and defeated both schools.

Senior Chris Koperniak qualified for the state meet by placing first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.44). The boys also swept the 200 freestyle with freshman Thomas Lucak taking first (1:56.29), sophomore Chris Lee placing second (2:00.44) and freshman Bryan Mitchell taking third (2:11.25). Lee also won the 100 freestyle (52.67) and sophomore Riki Otaki took third (1:00.50). Otaki also took second in the 100 breaststrke (1:17.27).

In the 100 butterfly, sophomore Andrew Morton placed first (1:07.34) while sophomore Jeb Beard placed third (1:08.26). In the 200 individual medley, Koperniak placed second (2:20.64) while Beard captured another third-place finish (2:25.24). Mitchell placed third in the 50 free (26.11) and sophomore Robert Hawkins placed second in the 500 free (6:36.41).

The McIntosh girls did just as well, sweeping the 200 individual medley with sophomore Lindsey Lochridge placing first (2:34.92), freshman Bailey Abercrombie placing second (2:48.14) and freshamn Caroline Clark finishing third (2:57.79). Lochridge also won the 100 breaststroke (1:17.73). Freshman Julie White won the 100 butterfly (1:17.53) and the 100 backstroke (1:14.28). Clark finished second in the 100 backstroke (1;17.37) and Abercrombie took second in the 100 buterfly.

Junior Tiffany Grant finished first in the 50 freestyle (28.44) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:21.84). In the freestyle events, junior Schaefer Abercrombie won the 500 free (6:42.73) and second in the 200 free (2:33.44), while sophomore Jenna Goedtke took second in the 100 free (1:08.76) and second in the 500 free (7:26.25), sophomore Sarah Harmon place third in the 200 free (2:52.31) and junior Kristy Chase took third in the 100 free (1:14.73).

In relay events, the McIntosh boys placed first and third in the 200 medley relay, second in the 200 free relay and first in the 400 free relay. The girls took first and second in the 200 medley relay, third in the 200 free relay and first and third in the 400 free relay.

McIntosh will swim in the Panther pack Invitational in Augusta tomorrow. They will face off against Starr's Mill, Fayette County and Sandy Creek in the county championships next Friday.
