Rising Starr wrestlers win county championships

Rising Starr Middle School's wrestling team won the county championships last weekend, edging out teams from Booth, Whitewater, Flat Rock and Fayette Middle. They will host the Metro Middle School Athletic League championships this Friday and Saturday against those same four teams and six teams from Henry County.

First place winners for Rising Starr were Jason Allen (75), Kevin Thurber (80), Brandon Ferguson (85), Derek King (90), Kevin O'Brien (95), Adam Federico (100), Jeff Koziol (110), Trent Freeman (115), Brandon Witta (120) and Tim Jones (167). Second place winners were Jim Donaldson (105) and Frank Paldino (275), while Keith Manching (127) and Kyle Trahan (147) placed third.

Wrestling action gets underway at Rising Starr at 5;30 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The finals should begin around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Rising Starr will have four mats going on both days and Starr's Mill will be hosting the Panther Duals on Saturday with another four mats going in the same complex.
