Starr's Mill and Landmark wrestling teams looking like teams to beat By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Starr's Mill and Landmark Christian's wrestling teams fared well in their meets last week. Starr's Mill faced Heritage and Union Grove and won both matches to improve their duals record to 14-0-1 on the season. Corey Radcliffe (103) won by decision in both matches, 3-2 against Heritage and 12-1 against Union Grove; Devon King (112) won by a decision against Heritage 7-2 and by technical fall against Union Grove; Chase Verzello (119) won by decision against Heritage 4-0 and Union Grove 2-1; D.J. Wright(125) won by decision against Heritage 6-2 and by decision against Union Grove 7-1 and Mike Cosper (130) won by technical fall against Heritage and by decision against Union Grove 10-3. Matt Hartpence (140) went 1-1, winning by decsion against Heritage 7-0 but losing 9-6 to Union Grove; Scott Molleson (145) won by pin in both matches; Nick Bennett (152) won by decision against Heritage 13-3 and by pin against Union Grove; Kyle Verzello (160) won by pin in both matches; Jordan Powers (171) won by tech fall against Heritage and by forfeit against Union Grove; Ben Griffin (189) went 1-1 defeating Union Grove 13-8; Bradley Connor went 1-1 defeating Union Grove 15-10 in overtime. Starr's Mill will host the Panther Duals on Saturday and teams such as Parkview, Henry County, McIntosh, LaGrange and Winder Barrow will be among the 10 teams wrestling in the meet. Action gets underway on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Landmark Christian School wrestling team defeated Chapel Hill High School 36-19 and Forest Park High School 57-9 last week. The team is now 43-9 over all and ranked second in the state. Individual winners against Chapel Hill included Brian Hoffler (112) by decision 4-3, Daniel Cox (119) by pin, Kyle Flavin (130)by decision 2-1, Jeremy Smith (135) by pin, Jacob Vineyard (140) by forfeit, Ethan Everett (152) by decision 17-1, Wren Gibby (160) by pin and Eddie Solly (171) by decision 9-2. Individual winners against Forest Park included Hoffler (112) by forfeit, Flavin (130) by forfeit, Smith (135) by forfeit, Jeremy Brown (140) by forfeit, Vineyard (145) by pin, Everett (152) by pin, Gibby (160) by decision 14-11, Solly (171) by pin, John Houston (189) by pin and Nick Taussig (215) by pin.
