Fox Theatre brings in two Broadway classics By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The Fox Theatre will host two classic musicals over the next two weeks thanks to Theater of the Stars, which is celebrating their 50th anniversary. "Annie" will run through Jan. 19 and "Cats" will run Jan. 21-26. "Annie" is about an orphan girl who ends up living with billionaire Daddy Warbucks for a week during Christmas and endearing himself to him. The orphanage owner, Miss Hannigan, can't stand to see Annie happy and with the help of her brother, Rooster, concocts a plan to get at some of Warbucks' money. "Annie" features the classic songs "It's a Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street" and "Tomorrow." Showtimes are 8 p.m. through Saturday and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. There will be matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. "Cats" is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which enjoyd a tremendously long run on Broadway. The musical is based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" and features some fascinating characters including Rum Tum Tugger, the rock and roll cat, Grizabella, the glamour cat, the magical Mr. Mistoffelees, Jennyanydots, Macavity and more. "Cats" boasts a fascinating set and costumes and tons of energy. The show won seven Tony Awards when it debuted in 1983 and includes the song "Memory" which has been recorded a number of times by artists such as Barbara Streisand, Judy Collins and Barry Manilow among others. Showtimes are 8 p.m. through Saturday and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. There will be matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
