Fayette resident stands up for DARE program deputy

I would love to write a response to the Dec. 18 letter from Greg Baxter and his comments about the DARE deputy.

This lady has been a member of the Fayette County [Sheriff's Department] for over 13 years that I know of and she hasn't shot herself in the foot yet.

You however have shot your mouth off out of turn about a person you know nothing about. Her "desk job" as you put is one that she is very proud of and a job that was earned after years of being a deputy that worked the highways and roads of this county.

If indeed you are a "certified firearms instructor," then you must know that as a deputy firing a gun and the handling of one would be a part of the training to become a deputy. Are you bothered by the deputy thing or is it just that you resent a woman being a deputy?

Personally I think you have too much time on your hands if all you have to do is watch the actions of the sheriff's office. Most of us here in the county think they are doing a good job, and if we have a problem, we call in a complaint. I think it is stupid of you to think that a deputy should walk around without a firearm.

That lady has earned the right to wear a firearm, and should the occasion call for it I am positive that she could leave her "desk" and handle the situation just as well or better than any men on the force. Greg, get a life!
