The sound of Christmas carols in the air

Here's a Christmas carol story.

Have a Lott of Merry Christmas
By BILLY MURPHY
Laugh Lines

I am so happy and cheery and ready for Christmas. I feel like every kid in every Christmas poem. I feel like a nutcracker dipped in eggnog rolled in chestnuts. I am excited about Christmas this year from my stockinged head down to my mistletoe. But, wait. It seems a Grinch would steal all my holiday joy. Amidst all this cheer, a story with a heart two sizes too small is stealing Santa's thunder.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

PTC Mayor responds to Chamber criticism

It is a pleasure to work with businesses and industries in Peachtree City. I am grateful for the support that I have received from our local businesses.

PTC is now perceived to have 'anti-business' bias

The story in question is actually a letter to the editor from the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Chairman Michael Hofrichter, who appears to be speaking for the Board of Directors, or perhaps the entire membership of the Chamber. The letter is probably the most accurate and complete accounting of Mayor Steve Brown's actions that has ever been published in your newspaper.

1st-class tennis facility not expected to be break-even

In response to the recent article concerning the collective resignation of the "volunteers" who sit on the Peachtree City Development Authority, I would like to enlighten the average citizen on a few important facts regarding two particular individuals mentioned in the article, Virgil Christian and Tate Godfrey.

Authority would be fired at any private company

Well, I'm back. I have been very quiet for some time. Frankly it was more interesting watching than participating. Our new mayor and mostly new council have been working overtime. Ever since our former mayor Bobby made the 6 o'clock news trying to press criminal charges on our current mayor for misappropriation of $8 and change in services, it's been pretty quiet. Even his cadre ran for cover. But, as things happen, there is almost always a new dragon just around the corner.

Authority's numbers, judgment don't add up

Your article on Dec. 11 concerning the pitiful recitation of the Peachtree City mess and its Development Authority strikes right to the heart of the fading belief of normal citizens that political management of public affairs is still a viable possibility. Likewise, it is a textbook case of brushing up to the truth and presenting about as much fact as we are apt to see.

A few businesses are going smoke-free in PTC

Thank you, Peachtree City Wal-Mart. Along with Ruby Tuesday you are restoring my faith in our business community. Your companies care enough about your customers and employees to fix the problem of secondhand smoke without our having to rely on a smoking ban.

Fayette resident stands up for DARE program deputy

I would love to write a response to the Dec. 18 letter from Greg Baxter and his comments about the DARE deputy.

EMC wire spools, so long in subdivision, get decorated

What do the residents of the Tapestry subdivision [in Peachtree City] want for Christmas?
