SCAT swims well at two meets

SCAT swimmers placed second overall at the Marietta Marlins Invitational this past weekend, even without the help of some outstanding teammates who were competing at the Dalton Jingle Bell Classic the same weekend. Most of SCAT's senior squad also took the weekend off in preparation for this weekend's Senior State Championships.

Out of seven teams, SCAT placed second to the host team, Marietta Marlins.

"Although the weather may have been cold, there was no doubt that it was the SCAT swimmers who were heating up the pool," Head Coach Jamey Myers said. "The swimmers' enthusiasm generated a lot of fast swimming."

Several swimmers achieved new state qualifying times.

Finishing with personal best times in all their races were Melissa Beall, Emily Kim, Bryan Mitchell, SamChun Shimabe and Sydney Cartwright.

At the Marlins Invitational, Sydney Cartwright, 8, dropped the most time in the 25-yard category with a 5.07-second drop in the 25 breaststroke. She dropped 4.99 seconds in the 50 breaststroke, 15.86 seconds in the 100 breaststroke, and 43.68 seconds in the 200 freestyle. In the 400/500-yard category, Samantha Currenti dropped 2.70 seconds in the 400 individual medley, and Matt Hildebrand dropped 9.12 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle.
