Lady Tigers dominate end of year softball awards

Though the softball season ended over a month ago, accolades continue to pour in for the state champion Fayette County High School Lady Tigers.

Last week, the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association named Jill Joiner, Coach of the Year, Bonnie Bynum as Pitcher of the Year and Alison Horne as Player of the Year. Bynum and Horne were also named to the South All Star team as were teammate Pamela O'Neal and Starr's Mill's Danielle Aszman. The South All Stars will meet all stars from the northern part of the state June 16-18 in Columbus.

"Both Bonnie and Alison were unanimous decisions," said Coach Jill Joiner. "With Bonnie there was really no question, considering her stats and the impact she had for our team. Alison is a feared hitter and a tremendous force on the field. She does things that many people just can't do." When speaking of her award, Joiner was modest, saying, "I think they just give it to whoever wins the championship." Joiner also credited her staff of assistants, including Kristen Cristelli, who called all of Bynum's pitches during the season.

Those four all stars, along with Fayette County's Ashley Holcombe, were also named to the AAAAA first team.

Three other Lady Tigers recieved honorable mention for their performance on the diamond this year: Paige Phillips, Stefanie Norman and Katie Gaspierik.

"This is a true honor for us and the school," said Joiner. "I am pleased for our program, which worked very hard for the title."
