Starr's Mill swimmers continue to swim well The Starr's Mill Panthers swim team continued to look strong in the pool by beating Cherokee High, Sandy Creek High and the Upson-Lee Knights at the Kedron Aquatic Center last Friday. Starr's Mill had several swimmers missing due to the Georgia state swim meet, but still managed to win the meet. The final score for the boys team was 207 to Sandy Creek's 144, Cherokee's 92 and Upson-Lee Knight's 10. The girls finished with 185 points to Cherokee's 142, Sandy Creek's 106 and Upson-Lee's 55. The Panthers had many first-place finishes. Senior Josh Strickland finished first in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.09) and the 100 back (1:06.14). Senior Samantha Hudson also finished first in both of her events, the 50 free (28.49) and the 100 free (1:02.75). Sophomore Kris Pretzer finished first in both of his events, the 200 I.M. (2:30.54) and the 100 free (1:00.21). Some other good performances were given by senior Chris Frederick, first, 100 breast (1:10.48) and second, 200 I.M. (2:35.10); senior Laurel Surratt, first, 100 breast (1:18.66) and second, 100 free (1:05.33); senior Lisa Cornelius, first, 200 free (2:33.00) and third, 100 back (1:22.89); senior Jessica Lovelace, first, 200 I.M. (2:47.86); senior Jared Siri, first, 500 free (6:26.49); junior Paul Daniel, first, 200 free (2:19.13); junior Jamie Grace, first, 500 free (7:08.82) and freshman Katie Ham, first, 100 butterfly (1:15.05). More Panthers added to the winning score. Senior Brittney Wester, second, 50 free (29.24); junior Libby Hardison, second, 200 I.M. (2:48.65); junior Haynes Finney, second, 100 butterfly (1:04.80); junior Dustin Martin, second, 500 free (6:35.08) and freshman Scott Adams, second, 100 back (1:11.33). The Starr's Mill boys relay teams were impossible to beat, as they finished first in all three events. The 200 medley relay team of Adams, Frederick, Strickland and Martin swam a 1:59.16. Pretzer, junior Daniel Baily, Daniel and Finney finished with a time of 1:46.65 in the 200 free relay. The 400 free relay of Daniel, Adams, Baily and Finney also finished first with a time of 4:02.19. On the girls side the 400 relay team of Ham, Lovelace, Surratt and Hudson finished first with their time of 4:17.84. Finishing second in the 200 free relay were Lovelace, junior Amanda Persson, senior Ann Thrasher and Wester with 2:01.98. Also finishing second was the team of Grace, Surratt, Thrasher and sophomore Nikki Roth in the 200 medley relay (2:21.86). The Panthers will be off until Jan. 11.
