East Coweta, Landmark Christian and Starr's Mill all got big wins in the first round of the state playoffs. The second round games take place tonight and all three teams are hoping to continue their winning ways.

East Coweta's win may have been the biggest surprise of the tournament. The Indians (6-5) had an uneven season on the gridiron but had been playing better as the season went on. They continued playing well by defeating Coffee, 31-9. It was the third straight game in which the defense did not allow a touchdown. Derek White rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Indians will need to play staunch defense again this Friday as they travel to take on Warner Robins (8-3). Warner Robins defeated Bradwell Institute 41-7 last week and had won five games in a row before ending their season with a 30-0 loss to Northside-Warner Robins.

Northside-Warner Robins (9-2) will be traveling to Panther Stadium on Friday to meet a team they are very familiar with, the Starr's Mill Panthers (9-2). Northside-Warner Robins defeated Starr's Mill last year in the playoffs by a score of 35-7 and the Panthers would love to avenge that loss. Starr's Mill demolished Tift County's Blue Devils 42-7 last week and has an incredible running game that could pose problems for Northside. Northside will be a much tougher opponent than the Blue Devils. They have won six games in a row and ended the regular season with three straight shutouts. Last week, they defeated Effingham County 49-14.

Landmark Christian (11-0) will be on the road this week but Friday's game will be a home game. They will be playing Lincoln County (6-4) at Sandy Creek High School at 7 p.m. Landmark rolled up 500 yards of offense in their 48-7 win over Jefferson last week, while Lincoln County defeated Bremen 39-15. The War Eagles are perhaps the best team in Class A and have too many offensive weapons to name, though quarterback Alex Mortensen spreads the ball out evenly amongst them all. Last week he threw for close to 300 yards and four touchdowns.

Landmark will play at 7 p.m., while Starr's Mill and East Coweta will play at 7:30 p.m.
