Help record Peachtree City's living history People are needed to help volunteers document and record the living history of Peachtree City, and by doing so they can become part of that history themselves. The Oral History Committee of the Peachtree City Historical Society has begun the process of interviewing key citizens who have a story to tell about the city's past. David Piet has begun the process by conducting interviews with the former mayors. Piet is a retired army officer and city resident who served on the city's Planning Commission for several years. Joel Cowan, the first mayor, has completed his interview sessions already. Interviews with the remaining mayors are being set up now. The interviews are being taped on a high-quality Sony recorder for archiving purposes, and transcriptions are being produced. The tapes and transcriptions will be stored in the library for future research purposes. Peachtree City is in a unique position to record its history. Being chartered in 1959, it is only 43 years old. There are still many people here now who were here when the city was only a dream. From average citizens to community leaders, clerical leaders and business leaders, many others are yet to be interviewed. Interviews will continue, but the group needs people to conduct the interviews. Candidates will receive background material and hands-on training in how to conduct an oral history interview. People who have experience in transcribing are also needed. One transcriptionist has already donated her time, but others are needed due to the anticipated load of tapes that will eventually be produced by this effort. Others who may just want to get involved in other aspects of the Historical Society are welcomed as well. Those who wish to join the effort, or want more information, may contact M.T.
