Fayette Ballet preparing for "The Nutcracker"

Fayette Ballet will present three performances of "The Nutcracker" Dec. 7-8 at the Willie Duke Auditorium at Starr's Mill High School. Performances will take place at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Principal dancers Marisa Mack and Patrick Turner will dance the lead roles of Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. Mack is a principal dancer with the Ballethnic Dance Company and has performed the roles of "Sugar Plum," "Snow," Arabian," and Ballerina Doll" in "The Nutracker." Turner, an associate director of the Fayette Ballet Company, is well remembered for his roles as "Arabian" and "Cavalier" in last year's production. They will be supoorted by soloists and principal dancers of the Fayette Ballet and a cast of 125 area children and adults.

The entire production will be under the artistic direction of Turner and Annet Tomasi of Fayette Ballet, a nonprofit cultural and eucational organization based in Fayette County.

What began as a Christmas performance 15 years ago in Fayette County has now become an annual holiday tradition in the community.

"We are especially pleased with our efforts this year and promise a professional and enchanting Nutcracker production," stated Turner. "Our audiences no longer have to drive to Atlanta or Macon to see, good, professional dance at affordable prices for the family."

The Fayette Ballet production will be complete with lavish sets, costumes and scenery and will include a rowing Christmas tree, falling snow, the Battle of the Mice and Soldiers and a charming cast of dancers to present a magical, colorful performance.

Tickets are available at Regions Bank in Peachtree City and Fayetteville and the School of Performing Arts in Peachtree City and Fayetteville. Advanced reservations may be made by calling Fayette Ballet at 770-631-4928 or 770-461-0976. Ticket prices are $15 for preferred seating, $12.50 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.

Patron tickets are $22.50 and include choice reserved seating, a listing in the program book and an invitation to the Patron's reception immediately following the Saturday evening performance.

Group discounts are available to churches, civic organizations, schools and area scout troops. A special family package, made possible through area businesses, is available for $37 for reserved seating for six.
