PTC Flash get several first place finishes at state meet The Peachtree City Flash youth cross country team competed in the state championships held at Carrolton, GA this past Saturday. Ffity-one athletes competed in this USATF event. The Flash athletes did extremely well with three first place team finishes, and two second place team finishes out of the eight group teams that were entered. In addition, this meet serves as a qualifier for the Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championships to be held in Georgia on Dec. 14 for all athletes 10 years old and up. More than 3,000 athletes from all over the country will gather here for the annual event. Of the 37 Flash athletes eligible for nationals, 21 qualified to compete next month. The Sub-bantam (8 and under) girls got the day off to a fantastic start. Their team once again finished in first place in their age group with Haley Smith again leading the charge. Smith finished second, barely edged out by less than a foot at a finish line photo finish. They were followed by the Sub-bantam boys (8 and under) boys who finished in second place. All 14 Sub-bantan athletes who participated at state qualified for regionals next Saturday, also in Carrolton. They will be competing against the other USATF Region III states: Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The Midget (12 and under) girls also once again captured first place team by an outstanding margin, with four athletes in the top nine places. The Midget (12 and under) boys also finished first in their age group by edging out Walton Youth Track Club. Several of the boys ran PR's (personal best record) to help push the team to this victory. Several local high school runners joined the Flash athletes in the higher age groups, after finishing the high school season last week. Kristin Horton of Starr's Mill again rose to the occasion with an outstanding performance finishing second for Flash in the Youth (14 and under) girls. Three McIntosh and two Sandy Creek athletes also joined forces to secure a second place finish for the Intermediate (16 and under) girls.
