State playoffs start Friday for several local teams By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The regular season of high school football is over and several local teams are in the state playoffs. Landmark Christian and Starr's Mill will host games this Friday, while Sandy Creek will be on the road. Sandy Creek and Landmark Christian each ended their season with a win. The Patriots defeated Northgate, 7-6, while the War Eagles blanked Mt. Zion, Carroll 34-0 and finished the season with a perfect 10-0 record. Sandy Creek's lone touchdown came from Phillip Hyde, who rushed for 152 yards. The Patriots secured the win with Will Judson blocking an extra point and a field goal. Jermaine Jones also recovered a fumble that kept Northgate from scoring again. Landmark Christian got four touchdowns from Dylan Hanes and quarterback Alex Mortensen threw for over 220 yards passing. Landmark will host Jefferson (5-5) on Friday night. The Jefferson Dragons lost to Athens Academy on Friday and have scored 24 total points in their last three games, all losses. Starr's Mill will host Tift County (3-7). The Blue Devils had lost four games in a row before getting a win in the final week of the season. Sandy Creek (7-3) will travel to take on the Ware County Gators (7-3). Ware County had won five games in a row before losing to Thomas County Central in the final week of the regular season. Should all three teams win, Starr's Mill would face the winner of Northside/Wayne County; Landmark will face the winner of Lincoln County/Bremen and Sandy creek will face the winner of Thomson/Hardaway, Troup County or Upson Lee.
