Authors to discuss legends of gardening

Have you ever heard of 'Nellie R. Stevens' Holly and wondered who was Nellie R. Stevens and how did this holly get her name? Linda Copeland, guest speaker for the Backyard Association, has co-authored "Legends in the Garden," along with Allan Armitage, professor of Horticulture at the University of Georgia.

Copeland and Armitage have written a book filled with stories of treasured garden plants and the people whose name's have been passed along to plants. Attend the Backyard Association meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12, and learn which namesakes come from Coweta County. Books will be on sale and Copeland will be available after the session for a book signing.

The Backyard Association, sponsored by Coweta County Extension Service, is open to the public and meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday evening of each month except December. Reservations are required and admission is free. The sessions are held at the Coweta County Extension Service, 21 East Washington Street in Newnan. For more information, phone 770-254-2620.
