Does the prize come with fries?

A number of athletes from Fayette County have been nominated for the 2002 Wendy's High School Heisman Award, given each year to a male and female senior and based on excellence in academics, athletics and community involvement. The award was created in 1994 in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Heisman Memorial Trust.

During each phase, the field is narrowed. As students progress they are judged by a panel that includes past winners and leaders in education, athletics, business and community service.

The local nominees are Joseph Register, a student at Landmark Christian and a resident of Tyrone; Fayetteville resident Emily Burslem, also a student at Landmark Christian; Quentin Jones, a student at our Lady of Mercy High School from Fairburn; Sandy Creek High School students Stephen Lawson of Fayetteville and Krystal McBride of Fairburn; McIntosh High School students Robert Huefner and Sheena Sood, both from Peachtree City; and Starr's Mill High School student and Fayetteville resident Susan O'Brien.

To track how these students do in the competition, visit www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com or call 1-800-244-5161. The 12 National finalists will participate in the Heisman weekend festivities Dec. 13-15 in New York City and will be featured on ESPN2.
