PTC Flash has runners in last Saturday's PTC Classic

PTC Flash athletes competed in the 21st PTC Classic 5K and 15K races this Saturday, Oct. 12, here in Peachtree City. There were 31 athletes who competed in the 5K (3.1 miles). Amazingly, nine of them were 8 and under, running almost three times the normal race distance of 1.24 miles. Two team members braved the longer 15K race (9.3 miles). The race featured 2,400 runners of various ages who travel to Peachtree City for this grand running event.

Shannon Philipps and Whitney Huguelet were outstanding, both running in a 15K race for the first time. Phillips, 11, finished first in the 11-14 category with an exceptional time of 1:16:59. Not to be out done, Huguelet, 12, finished just behind her for second place and a time of 1:17:29. In addition, both girls also earned third and fourth place awards, respectively, in the USA Track and Field 15K National Championship which was held in conjunction with the Classic.

In the 11-14 age group for the 5K, the females were led by Mary Roberts, 11, with a fifth place finish and an outstanding time of 21:59. She was followed closely by Kirsten Pretzer, 12, with a ninth place finish and a time of 22:11. Next was Lacey Garrett, 14, with a 15th place finish and a time of 23:48; followed by Kelly Huguelet, 13, at 28:48 and Katie Jeffery, 11, at 31:11.

The boys 11-14 age group was led by Justin Jarrell, age 11, with a strong sixth place finish at 22:06. He was followed by Jonathan Garrett, 11, with an eighth place finish and a time of 22:21. Next came Mehamed Gomez, 11, with a 13th place finish and a time of 24:57; followed by Cory Furches, 12, at 26:45; Nathaniel Jeffery, 13, at 27:10 and Duggan Everage, 11, at 38:27.

April Esposito, 10, led the females in the 10 and Under category with an outstanding third place finish of 22:14. Rita Steiger, 9, followed in 14th place with 30:36. Next was Jessica Brown, 9, and a time of 33:08; Katie Culpepper, 8, with 33:38; Chelsey Bowman, 7, with 34:20; Elizabeth Jeffery, 7, with 34:26; Shauna Garrett, 6, with 37:56; Alexis Windau, 9, with 39:02; Kelly Lange, 10, also with 39:02; Fierra Roundtree, 7, with 43:15; Michaela Brown, 6, with 44:48 and Jamie Gesslein, 7, with 49:07.

The Boys 10 and Under category was again led by Baylen Garrett, 9, finishing 6th at 23:04. Caleb Robertson, 9, was 13th at 26:37 and Austin Vorwald,10, was 14th with a time of 26:44. He was followed by Matt Donohue, 9, with a 26:52 finish; Brandon Aultman, 8, with 27:36; Matthew Bruce, 8, with 27:29; Ian Roberts, 7, with 27:30; Wesley Smith, 10, at 28:50 and Jonathan Jeffery, 9, finishing at 30:17. The PTC Flash is especially proud of their young runners, many of whom are in their first year of competition, for taking on and finishing this 5K challenge so well.
