GHSA tosses around idea for Super 32 for football
By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The Georgia High School Association has been tossing around the idea of a "Super 32" division for football. The new division would be a way to separate the largest 32 schools in terms of students from the others, allowing more tems to make the state playoffs. Talks are in preliminary stages and the earliest that a Super 32 could be formed would be 2004, but if the current number of students at our local high schools were to hold, Fayette County High School would be included in the Super 32. However, Whitewater High School will be open by 2004 and that would take away students that would be going to Fayette County High School. Other teams that would be included, if the Super 32 were formed this fall, would be Pope, Parkview, Harrison, Brookwood, Tri-Cities and Douglass, Atlanta. Each team in the Super 32 would automatically make the playoffs, though their regular season games would be played against other teams from their region in AAAAA. The number of students at schools will change nearly every year, meaning that the Super 32 will also change each year.
