Fiesta on the Plaza' in PTC this Saturday

During the month of October the Peachtree City Library will feature displays celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The library will also host its second "Fiesta on the Plaza" in front of City Hall on Saturday, October 12, 2002, from 2 5:30 p.m.

Coordinators for the event, Mary Haas and Nancy Jurchenko, have been hard at work to ensure that this year's event will be one to remember. Fayette County's Hispanic community will provide free entertainment, food, hands-on activities, craft displays, musicians, a storyteller, a clown and dancers.

The party on the plaza will conclude with a free concert by local group, Spanish Flavor, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

According to Haas, this will be a return visit for Spanish Flavor and library staff is hoping for the good weather they enjoyed during last year's event.

"Residents brought lawn chairs and blankets and sat in the grass while they enjoyed the music," said Haas.

Jurchenko added that, "This kind of event encourages people to get to know their neighbors and learn about other's cultures."

According to Census 2000, the Hispanic community increased over 200 percent from 1990 to 2000 making it the fastest growing group in Peachtree City.
