PTC Flash competes in Etowah Meet

28 Flash members traveled to Etowah this past Sunday for a cross country meet. The eight and under girls again took first place, even without their top runner who is out with a minor injury. Although there were not enough runners to secure a first place for the 12 girls, the showing was quite strong with our only three runners finishing in three of the top six spots. Individual result are as follows:

In addition, nine members of the Flash Cross Country Team were joined by three previous members as they comprised two teams to compete against many other Georgia runners of all ages at the Atlanta Track Club Ekiden Marathon Relay held at Grant Park, Sunday, Sept. 29. The relay teams consists of six runners who each run 4.37 mile legs on a very difficult, hilly course around Grant Park in Atlanta. Former Flash members Melissa Anderson, the number one runner for the strong female McIntosh High School cross country team and Alex Huguelet, the number six runner joined the women's six member team, and Andrew Leonard, another strong member of the Male McIntosh team combined with Flash members to complete the six member men's team.

The females finished seventh with a total combined time of 3:25:29 for the total marathon distance 26.2 miles, and individual times led by Shannon Philipps, 32:12; followed by Melissa Anderson, 32:48; Whitney Huguelet, 32:52; Alex Huguelet, 34:23; Mary Roberts, 35:46; and Lacey Garrett, 37:21.

The mens combined time was 3:21:17, finishing in sixth place, led by Vince Brown, 30:57, and followed by Andrew Leonard, 31:20, Jonathan Garrett, 32:08; Justin Jarrell, 33:34, Baylen Garrett, 36:05 and Austin Vorwald, 38:13.

The Flash will next compete in the Peachtree City Classic 5K on Saturday.
