Noted minister Charles Campbell to speak in Newnan Members of the congregations of Newnan Presbyterian Church and Central Baptist Church will have the opportunity to hear one of the region's most noted preachers Sunday, Oct. 13. Dr. Charles L. Campbell, professor of homiletics at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, will deliver sermons at both churches that Sunday as part of their shared preaching series. Campbell will fill the pulpit at Central Baptist at 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. and at Newnan Presbyterian at 11 a.m. The focus of his sermons will be "Come and See," as the invitation appears with different meanings in the book of John. Campbell is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A native of Little Rock, Ark., he was educated at Hendrix College, Union Theological Seminary, Yale Divinity School and Duke University. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he is associate editor of "The Journal for Preachers." His forthcoming book, "The Word Before the Powers: An Ethic of Preaching," will be published this fall. The preaching series is an annual shared ministry between Newnan Presbyterian and Central Baptist. "By pooling our resources with Central Baptist, together we are able to bring both our congregations fresh perspectives on the Scriptures from leading Biblical scholars," said Harry Barrow, pastor of Newnan Presbyterian Church. The annual preaching series began in 1989. |
