PTC Recreation to host fun day for students durig school holidays

Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Dept. will hold an all day Friday Funday on Oct. 18 at the Kedron Fieldhouse off Kedron Drive in Peachtree City. Drop off begins at 7:45 a.m. for the day of activities which runs from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday Funday coincides with a school holiday for students / staff development day scheduled on the Fayette County Board of Education 2002-03 Calendar. Registration begins on Sept 15 for children ages 5 to 12 at the Kedron Fieldhouse and the Recreation Admin Building,off McIntosh Trail. The cost is $25 per child and is limited to 60 children. Children must bring their own lunch.

The Atlanta Thrashers Community Outreach Team, the Street Dashers, will conduct a 2-hour clinic on the skills of Street Hockey at the new multi purpose rink at the Kedron Recreation area from 12-2 p.m. as part of the days' activities. David Porter, Thrasher Outreach Team coordinator, "looks forward to working with the youth at the City's newest recreation facility".

The Community Outreach Team continues to support Peachtree City's In Line Youth Hockey Assn. sponsored by the PTC Recreation Dept. and will hold an additional training session at the multi purpose rink from 3-4 p.m. on Friday Oct. 18 for youth who have registered for Fall 2002 season.

Doodle the Clown will return to Peachtree City and will entertain the children with her new Magic show. "Doodle has become very popular with the area youth and has developed a lot of friendships with her fans who email her often " according to Bernice Wassell, recreation coordinator. "Doodle is a master at face painting and balloon sculpting. She will introduce the Funday crowd to new games that she created and will teach the youth some elements on becoming a clown."

In the afternoon the Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts will present a Scarecrow Workshop and Sarah Opp will teach a session on Children's Folk Art. " If you ask the kids what they like best about Funday, most will say they love the open gym time or anytime they get to play in the gym" according to Sherry McHugh, recreation administrator. " We close the Kedron gym and multi purpose rink to the public for specified time segments while we conduct Funday Activities in October and February, says McHugh. "Each of our recreation coordinators' are assigned a small group of children for the day. We get to have fun and the children are supervised by a group of experienced competent adults throughout the day. "

Parents are encouraged to register early due to the limited enrollment of 60 spaces. Registration hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Recreation Admin Bldg and Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 1 ­ 5:30 pm at the Kedron Center.
