The high school football season is right around the corner and the preseason events are already starting. Fans will get their first chance to view the Fayette County Tigers football team, under new head coach Jim Lindsey, with a jamboree against the Northgate Vikings on Friday and a "Meet the Tigers" session on Sunday. The jamboree will take place at Tiger Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the "Meet the Tigers" session will take place at Tiger Stadium at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Other upcoming jamborees include Sandy Creek at Starr's Mill on Friday, Aug. 16, and Mt. Zion at Fayette County, Morrow at Starr's Mill and McIntosh at Sandy Creek on Aug. 23. The regular season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 30 with Fayette County at Douglas County, Landmark Christian at Cross Keys, McIntosh vs. Eagle's Landing, Northgate at Newnan and Our Lady of Mercy at Pacelli Catholic. On Saturday, Aug. 31 Starr's Mill will face Dacula and East Coweta will face Parkview at the Corky Kell Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome. Friday night games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., while Starr's Mill's game at the Dome is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. and East Coweta's game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. In other football news, there has been some reshuffling of classifications. Fayette County, Starr's Mill, McIntosh and East Coweta all remain in 4-AAAAA, which last year had two subregions and contained sixteen teams, but they are now only joined by Riverdale, Newnan, Lovejoy and Carver. Sandy Creek and Woodward Academy both remain in 4-AAAA but they are joined by a slew of new teams including Northgate, Forest Park, Alexander, Chapel Hill, Douglas County, Lithia Springs, North Clayton, and Pebblebrook. Our Lady of Mercy is now a full-fledged varsity program. They have joined 5-A, which also contains Landmark Christian School. The two teams will meet on November 8 at Landmark.
