Founders Day parade to honor 'heroes'

The public is invited to celebrate Tyrone Founders Day with friends and family during the 26th annual Tyrone Founders Day Parade. The town of Tyrone is proud to present this community event in cooperation with the volunteers of the Tyrone Founders Day Committee.

This year Tyrone honors its finest: the men and women police officers, EMT, and firefighters. The theme for the parade is "America's Heroes." The Grand Marshal for this parade is Chris Holcomb, an Emmy award-winning meteorologist for 11 Alive News. He joined the station in 1991 and currently serves as weather anchor for 11 Alive News weekends at 6 and 11 p.m.

The Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in Downtown Tyrone. It will start at the Senoia Road Bridge and make its way along Senoia Road to Tyrone Elementary School.

Entry forms for the parade will be mailed out by July 26 to all participants who have previously been in the parade. If you do not receive an entry form within a week, or would like to be in the parade for the first time, applications are available at the Tyrone Town Hall or Recreation Center call 770-487-4694 for additional information. The entry form is also available through Tyrone's Web site, www.tyrone.org.

The deadline to turn in your applications to enter in Tyrone Founders Day is Friday, Sept. 6. Become a part of Tyrone's 26-year history, and reserve your space today. Space is limited to 100 entries, which will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis.
