Christ the King youth attend 'gathering' in Selma

Several youth from the Fayette/Coweta area recentrly attended the "Gathering of Champions 2002" in Selma, Ala. The event was the first national youth event of the Charismatic Episcopal Church and hosted more than 500 teens and 200 sponsors and adults.

The speakers were bishops or other leaders in the church. Activities included games, worship services, concerts, teaching opportunities and the feeding of several thousand homeless and/or poor people in the Selma area.

"More than 100 young people made commitments to receive Christ as Savior," a spokesperson said, "and some 200 youth said they prayed for a deeper experience with the Holy Spirit."

The Rev. David Neece, who accompanied several youth from Christ the King, said he would describe the entire week as "awesome."

The Rev. Dan Hale and his wife, Stephanie, also accompanied local youth.

The Gathering of Champions event birthed a national youth movement in the Charismatic Episcopal Church called "Laudate."

Christ the King is meeting temporarily in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley funeral Home each Sunday at 10 a.m. while its new sanctuary in Coweta County is being constructed.
