Brooks bears have a place to play and NFL stars hosting a camp

The Brooks Area Recreation Department is gearing up for an exciting football season with the Brooks Bears. Finally, the Bears will have a place to call home with the completion of its football facility, located on the 85 connector in Brooks. The field will have the latest high tech lighting and even air conditioned locker rooms.

"This facility is a product of a total effort of the Brooks community, local contractors and suppliers and the town of Brooks. The fnding has been through fundraising of our parents, assistance from the city of Brooks and donations from local merchants," said Mike Daughtry, president of the Brooks Area Recreation Department. "In addition to a football facility this park offers a walking trail for all members of the community to enjoy as well as future plans for basketball, tennis, playgrounds and a community pavilion."

Randy Fleming, Director of Football for the Bears stated that "the growth of the Bears program and the increased population in the southern part of Fayette County has demanded our organization become more aggressive with the programs and facilities offered to our youth." Fleming went on to say that they offer more than just football, citing the upcoming NFL all star camp that committee member Donna Pollard has organized. The camp, which will take place Monday, July 13, will feature big name NFL Players, including Atlanta Falcon Keith Brooking.

Derrick Hoskins, owner of Rain Forest Car Wash in Fayetteville and former Oakland Raiders defensive back together with the Brooks Bears have teamed up to offer the All Star Football Camp open to all youth interested in the game of football. Aside from Brooking and Hoskins, other guests scheduled to appear are James Trapp of the Baltimore Ravens and Drew Hill of the Dallas Cowboys.

"In addition to helping Brooks Football organize a top quality day camp, Hoskins and Rain Forest Car Wash have gone a step further," said Pollard. "For every car hand washed in the month of July, a portion of the proceeds will go to Brooks Area Recreation Department to further support the funding of the new facility."

Hoskins is glad to help. "It is important that local merchants get behind youth programs such as this and the spirit it can build within the community," said Hoskins. "It is just the right thing to do."

The camp will take place in Brooks Park on Monday, July 13 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The camp is open to ages 5 and up and the fee is $15 for registered Brooks Bears players and $35 for non-registered players. Phone Donna Pollard at 770-599-6701 or Randy Fleming at 770-719-0337 for more information.
