Living legend Ray Charles to play 'The Fred' this weekend Everybody knows Ray
Charles. Whether it is from his appearances in films like "The Blues
Brothers" or on television on shows like "20/20," "Who's
The Boss," "St. Elsewhere" or "Sesame Street,"
Charles is an easily identifiable American icon. This Friday and Saturday,
Charles will perform his numerous hits at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.
"The Wizard of Oz," one of the most beloved children's stories of all time, is being performed at the Fox Theatre this week. The show, featuring Dorothy and her friends, also features some local children as Munchkins and Ozians.
Doodle
Marie Mayhem will teach kids how to become a clown at a Clown Camp sponsored
by the PTC Parks and Recreation Dept. The Camp will be held at the Frederick
Brown Jr. Amphitheater (The Fred) June 24 to 28, Monday through Friday
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday June 28. The Camp will have two performances
at the Fred, 2 p.m. for Camp McIntosh and the general public and again
at 4 p.m. for parents, friends and everybody else who missed the earlier
show. Each camper will become a joey (new clown) and receive his/her clown
name and a diploma. Newnan's
own Doug Stone will perform a benefit concert at Newnan High School's
Drake Stadium on Saturday night. It
is quite a job to control a cast and crew of over 70 people but director
David Spearman is up to the challenge. Spearman, along with musical director
Millie Turek and choreographer Jonsie Pollock, is bringing the classic
musical "The Sound of Music" to the stage for Fayette Players
and Community Theatre starting June 20. My head is a little fuzzy as I write this. I woke up at 2:30 this morning to watch the U.S. tie Korea in the World Cup. Though I went back to bed after the match, things are still a little muffled and slow right now.
