"The Wizard of Oz," one of the most beloved children's stories of all time, is being performed at the Fox Theatre this week. The show, featuring Dorothy and her friends, also features some local children as Munchkins and Ozians.

The story focuses on Dorothy who is magically transported to Oz during a tornado. After landing on the Wicked Witch of the East, the Wicked Witch of the West is after her and a pair of ruby red slippers. Dorothy must follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Wizard of Oz, the only man who can send her back to Kansas. Along the way she befriends a scarecrow, a tin man and a cowardly lion. Dorothy and her new friends learn lessons about intelligence, sentimentality and courage.

The show features all of the memorable songs from the movie, including "Over the Rainbow," "If I Only Had a Brain," "Follow the Yellow brick Road" and more. The show also features a lot of special effects and flying scenes. Audiences will thrill at the tornado, the flying witch and her gang of flying monkeys.

Over 75 members of the metro Atlanta community will perform in the community chorus. Children in the chorus range in age from 7-14. Two Peachtree City residents in the show are 11-year-olds Patrick Dyer and Erin Hogan. Dyer attends The Bedford School and Hogan attends Landmark.

"The Wizard of Oz" will be performed through Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 and 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $16-$50 and tickets are available at the Fox Theatre box office or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Phone 404-817-8700 for more information.
