Ex-mayor seeks public hearing on contract flap I have been following the actions of Mayor Brown and Councilmen Rapson, Tennant and Weed relative to the Airport and Development authorities with a growing sense of anger. My anger stems not from the fact that this flock of incompetents has been accusing me of doing something illegal, invalid, dishonest and totally unethical. Heck, Brown has been doing that to me for years! If he didn't have me to whine and carp about, he pretty much wouldn't have a life. No, my anger arises for another reason and that reason is why I write this letter. For me to have done what they accuse me of doing would have required the complicity and cooperation of the following people: Jim Basinger, Rick Lindsey, Jane Miller, Betsy Tyler, Carol Fritz, Annie McMenamin, the chairmen of the two authorities, the authority attorneys, and the authority managers, Jim Savage and Virgil Christian. I am absolutely irate because these people are some of the finest, hardest working, most ethical and most competent people among all those who work for and volunteer their efforts to Peachtree City. They do not deserve the aspersions cast on their competence and character by this group of people who seem to possess little if any of either. I personally assure all of you that the contracts in question are properly approved, properly executed and totally valid. They would be upheld and affirmed by any court in the land. For this reason I hereby send a polite warning to Brown and his three cohorts. If you take any unilateral action to abrogate or modify these contracts without first proving me wrong in court, it is you who will be guilty of acting illegally and it is me who will be suing each of you personally. Lastly, I have delivered a letter to City Hall on behalf of all of us as citizens asking that a thorough public hearing and public discussion on this matter be placed on the July 18, 2002 [City] Council agenda. I regret having to wait until then but I do not feel that the true facts can be determined and aired without my input. I will not be here for the June 20 council meeting and July 18 is the next scheduled meeting. Since Mr. Brown has developed quite a reputation for refusing to let the public speak at council meetings and since he doesn't do at all well in head-to-head debate, I am not optimistic that he will have the courage or intelligence to confront this issue directly and openly. If by chance he does, however, I would encourage you to be there if you care about the future of the Amphitheater, the Tennis Center and Falcon Field Airport.
