Cannon blast misleads on annexation facts

I'd like to make a few basic comments regarding [Tyrone] Councilman Ronnie Cannon's recent letter to the editor on annexation and other issues.

Every time there is a disagreement over issues, Councilman Cannon likes to put a personal slant on it. To Councilman Cannon, county commissioners (and others) who disagree with him or who ask questions are: misinformed, liars, ignorant, don't do their homework, are confused, don't care about the people/children etc. Is this necessary?

Concerning the issues Councilman Cannon discussed, annexation and the Tyrone sewer, the story he presents is a bit incomplete, leaving out important details, as well as misleading. Does he really expect people to believe that the current group of county commissioners would find 2,270 apartments "acceptable to them"? It's hilarious.

He says he was taught, "Facts convince. Opinions confuse." Well, when I brought up the issue of annexation at the Association of Fayette County Governments meeting, that's what I was asking for, an open examination of the facts.

Councilman Cannon, through his opposition to even discussing the issue, opposes looking for the "facts that convince." If the councilman truly believed that those of us who question the effects of annexation are simply misinformed, then why pass up a great opportunity to do some informing?

So, since that meeting, I've been doing what I said. "Digging in," and doing the homework that the councilman says he wants. I'll soon start sharing the results of that homework with the citizens of this county.

Regarding his comment about Cal Beverly carrying my shovel, I can assure Councilman Cannon that Cal Beverly doesn't carry anyone's shovel and neither do I.

Peter Pfeifer
County Commission, Post 3
