Management students are honored

The Clayton State chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management received national recognition when it was presented the first place SAM Campus Chapter Performance Program award for large chapters by the 2002 International Conference, held in McLean, Va.

The CCPP award recognizes chapters for practicing good management skills, and is awarded based on the historical success of the chapter. In 2001, Clayton State SAM received the Outstanding New Campus Charter Award at the International Conference in Las Vegas. This award laid the groundwork for the 2002 CCPP award.

Not only was the chapter as a whole acknowledged at the 2002 International Conference, but individual student members and faculty were also recipients of SAM awards.

Clayton State SAM student member Keith Bleckley (Mableton/South Cobb High School) received a SAM National Outstanding Student Award, one of only 15 given nationally. Bleckley, president of Clayton State's SAM, is a senior, majoring in Psychology and Human Services.

Bleckley, Armando Castro (Peachtree City) and Julia Radmann (Wolfsburg, Germany) received SAM Regional Outstanding Student awards. Castro, a management major at Clayton State, plans to pursue a degree in International Business.

Radmann, vice-president of SAM, graduated from the University May 2002 with a B.B.A. in Marketing.

Participants representing Clayton State SAM in the SAM 2002 Case Competition included: Bleckley, Castro and Radmann, as well as Amanda Sahlbom (Fayette County) and Pricilla Cooper (Fulton County). Sahlbom, a marketing major at Clayton State, will graduate in the spring of 2003 with High Honors. Cooper, an accounting major at the University, is an active member of SAM and vice-president of the Accounting Club.

Dr. Michael Deis, the faculty advisor for the Clayton State chapter, received a SAM Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award for the second consecutive year. He was also presented with a clock for his efforts.
