Fayette students win trip to Washington Fayette County High School juniors Jenna Mobley and Sam Beck were selected as the winners of the Coweta-Fayette EMC Washington Youth Tour Essay contest. They were selected from 57 essays submitted from Fayette and Coweta counties. The students had a choice of several essay topics including the effects of deregulation and green power's benefits for our future. Both students chose to discuss the benefits of green power. Mobley concluded, "Green power is a step in the right direction for a better today, and an even brighter tomorrow." Beck wrote, "Green power is a new trend that has taken root within Georgia's society. The citizens of this state wish to conserve their natural resources and environment, so they turn to the use of green power. With this comes positive aspects and will help the communities of Georgia live healthier lives." The Washington Youth Tour program is a nationally sponsored event which involves more than 1000 high school students from across the nation. Each year Coweta-Fayette EMC chooses two students who join 80 other students from Georgia Electric Membership Corporations for the week-long, all expenses paid trip to our nation's capital. While there, they will have the opportunity to learn more about American history, government and electric cooperatives. They will also visit their congressional representatives and tour Arlington Cemetery, Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institute and other historical sites.
