Tigers advance to second round of AAAAA state tournament By MICHAEL

Can you leave work a little early today? If so, head over to Fayette County High School to watch the second round of the state baseball playoffs. The Tigers advanced by defeating Northside, Warner Robins, 15-0 and 6-4 last Thursday. Fayette county started the first game with a three-run home run from Matt Hankins, which helped the Tigers build a 6-0 lead at the bottom of the first. Lee Hyde hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second and Joseph Edens hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third as the Tigers won 15-0. Pitcher Bryan Moss didn't give up a hit in the three innings, struck out three batters and walked four. The second game had Joseph Edens on the mound for the win. Hyde homered in the second game and got the save. Fayette County is 23-4 this season and currently ranked fourth in AAAAA. The Tigers have a strong pitching staff, a .373 team batting average and 32 home runs on the season. The Tigers will host Coffee County today Coffee County is ranked eighth in AAAAA and have a 22-6 record. The doubleheader starts at 5 p.m. with senior Josh Hunter scheduled to pitch. Hunter has a 6-0 record this season and a .091 ERA. Junior Lee Hyde is slated to pitch the second game, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Hyde has a 6-1 record and 2.04 ERA. If a third game is necessary it will take place Thursday at 5 p.m. with senior Brian Moss and junior Joseph Edens ready to pitch.
