Pursue better service, more modest center for seniors

I and several other employees did not ask to be approached by seniors at the Center, distraught from circumstances that obviously were causing them sleepless nights and potential health issues. If these seniors felt comfortable speaking to their direct superiors, why didn't they do so? Let me try to answer that question. Many feel intimidated by management there and they have specific evidence to support this feeling.

I can appreciate the need for a better facility and commend those people who have stepped forward and dedicated personal time and resources toward this mission. However, we need to be careful that we don't let the pursuit of a bigger and better building prevent us from continuing to provide top-notch services to those needing care today.

I recommend that before we build a bigger building and continue to receive tax dollars for a new building, how about moving to one a bit larger that the current one, and go from there. If the new site is busting at the seams with seniors, then we have real-time data to support the building of a 22,000 square foot, $3.2 million building.

There are vacant building all over Fayette County that I feel would lend themselves nicely to a bigger and better facility to serve our seniors. FSS needs to answer the questions: Who are we trying to serve and what do they desire?
