Sandy Creek presents 'Guys and Dolls' By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
In the Sandy Creek Drama Department's upcoming production of "Guys and Dolls," the hottest game in town is Nathan Detroit's floating craps game. The problem is that the heat is on and Lt. Brannigan is trying to shut it down permanently. Adding to Nathan's problems are Adelaide, Nathan's longtime fiancee who is getting fed up with not being married; a number of gamblers like Nicely Nicely Johnson and Harry the Horse who want to spend their money at the game; and the return of Sky Masterson, a big-time gambler that Nathan knows he could make a few bucks off of. Sandy Creek will present "Guys and Dolls" March 21-23. The cast, which features close to 60 students, has been working for most of the year on the production. This year the students have taken a bigger role in the production as well, helping to design and build the sets and run the technical parts of the production as well. "The hardest part of the show has been learning their slang and the way they talk," said Joshua Lewis, who plays Nathan Detroit. "They mix in big vocabulary words with the slang. It's really funny." Other members of the cast include Tracy McBurnett as Adelaide, Joshua Lynch as Nicely Nicely and Joey Ellington as Sky Masterson. There have been rehearsals nearly every day for the show. Early on acting rehearsals would take place on Mondays and Thursdays, dancing on Tuesdays and Fridays and singing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It has been a busy time for the cast and crew but a rewarding one. "Everybody contributed, said McBurnett. "We had more to do with the show and were involved from beginning to end." "Guys and Dolls," directed by Kathy Andersen will be presented at Sandy Creek, March 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 are door and $7 in advance. Phone number is 770-969-2840.
