Patriots lose to Panthers and Tigers in Preseason Classic

Starr's Mill has started the season with four straight wins. Their latest win came against the Sandy Creek Patriots in the Fayette Sports Preseason Classic. The Panthers won the game 4-1 thanks to timely hitting and good pitching.

Myron Jensen got his second win of the season in last week's game against Sandy Creek. He gave up three hits and three walks while striking out six in five innings pitched. Casey Bond got his first save of the season. he pitched two innings, struck out three and didn't give up a hit.

The Panthers had a number of opportunities to score early on in the game but Sandy Creek played sharp defense and kept Starr's Mill off the scoreboard until the fourth inning. Sandy Creek scored first in the bottom of the third inning when Jared Jones hit an RBI double.

Billy Morrison, in his first start of the season for Starr's Mill, hit a two run double in the fourth and then scored on an error. The Panthers added another run in the fifth inning when Jake Jones scored off of a wild pitch.

Starr's Mill is off until Wednesday, March 27 when they take on Eagle's Landing.

Fayette County defeated Banneker, 14-0 and Sandy Creek 10-9 on Friday night. The Tigers scored all 14 runs against Banneker in the first inning and Phillip Powers hit a grand slam. He finished the night with two homeruns and nine RBIs. Other homeruns on Friday came from Joseph Edens and Lee Hyde.

Our Lady of Mercy lost to Pike County, 7-5 on Monday. The Bobcats will play at Northgate today at 4:30 p.m. and at Callaway on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Other games this week include Fayette County at Shaw at 5 p.m. on Friday. They will host Eagle's Landing at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. The McIntosh Chiefs baseball team will play at Villa Rica tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. and then will be off until March 27 when they play at Riverdale at 5:30 p.m.
