The last days of Jesus' earthly life will be remembered during Holy Week at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, senior pastor Rev. John Weber announced recently. There will be many opportunities to worship during a week that ends in solemnity before the great joy of Easter, the Day of Resurrection, he said.

Palm Sunday, March 24, is the big day for eighth-graders who have completed three years of studies, Weber noted. They will affirm their baptism and become confirmed members of the congregation during the 11 a.m. worship service.

On Maundy Thursday, March 28, the Lutherans will worship with the Presbyterians, at First Presbyterian Church, 206 Willowbend Rd. The service will begin at 7 p.m. and close with the stripping of the altar and the departure of worshippers in silence.

A noon community service has been the Good Friday tradition in Peachtree City for many years, with ministers from seven churches preaching on the Seven Last Words of Christ. Location for that service is not yet available.

On Good Friday afternoon, March 29, from 4 to 4:30 p.m., congregants from area churches will carry a cross from Christ Our Shepherd's church building at 101 Peachtree Pkwy. North to the picnic park behind the Peachtree City Library. The Cross Walk is an event which commemorates Christ's carrying his cross to Calvary where he was crucified.

At 8 p.m. on Good Friday, the Lutheran church will present its annual Tenebrae Service, or the Service of Shadows, which ends in darkness like that of a closed tomb.

Easter Vigil will be held at Christ Our Shepherd on Saturday, March 30 at 7 p.m.

The Day of Resurrection Easter will begin with traditional worship services at 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Contemporary worship in the Fellowship Hall will take place at 8:15 and 9:45 a.m. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated at all services. A nursery will be available.

For information about worship services, the number at Christ Our Shepherd is 770-487-8717 and at First Presbyterian, 770-487-7757. Call 770-487-7391 or 770-460-1350 concerning the Cross Walk.
