Fayette County youth wrestlers perform well at state tournament

The Fayette County Thrashers Wrestling Club entered the state youth wrestling tournament recently and finished second in the novice division and fourth overall.

The club, which expanded to 86 wrestlers this year, had two state champions Tommy Carney and T.J. Struck. Derek King placed second, Jeff Koziol placed third and Jason Allen and Landis Ford placed fourth. In the schoolboy division, D.J. Wright finished third and Chris Thrasher placed fourth.

"These boys work hard every practice and continue to improve beyond my expectations," said Coach Frank Bennett. "I really appreciate the help of Richard Penland, Scott Williamson, Ron Nelson, John O'Brien, Bruce Fergusen, Dave King, Ken Kellerman and Traci Thrasher. They have worked as hard as the boys this year. We're looking forward to another great season."
