5 weeks off within 2 months is overdoing it I think that starting schools before Labor Day is a very stupid thing to do. I work at a Boy Scout summer camp in the Thomaston, Ga., area. It had seven sessions this past summer, out of the original nine it was supposed to have. The reason for dropping these last two sessions of camp: schools cut into the summer camp season. That means there went two weeks available for scouts to advance and get more merit badges. That means that it was two weeks that I could not work at the job of my dreams. That means that once again, education had cut into my personal life, as it does so very often. As it is, my summer is very filled. I have a training session in New Mexico, working at the camp I mentioned above, possibly going to Indiana for a national Order of the Arrow conference, not to mention the various family vacations we take. I don't mind the extra time we have off from school during the year, and extra day or two off every month would be nice, but let's not overdo it. I had nearly four weeks off for "winter break" this year. Isn't that a bit much? Then they are talking about adding a extra week for Thanksgiving. Why have five weeks off during a period of two months? Like I said, a little time off now and then is good, but let's not overdo it. Chris Henry cbhenry@mindspring.com
